How to Record What You Hear With Audacity

Audacity is a program that can be downloaded and installed onto your computer. It features a Recording Device tab, where you can select a microphone to record what you hear. Then, select a track type from the dropdown menu. If you’re using a computer microphone, you’ll need to enable it.

The first step to record what you hear with Audacity is to select a track. Move your mouse horizontally or click on the spacebar. Choosing a track also enables you to adjust the audio volume of the selected track. In order to edit the audio file, you can make use of various tools such as the audio track dropdown menu, which will help you to make fine adjustments.

Besides selecting the track, you can also adjust the sound quality by setting a Default Sample Rate and Format. For better quality recordings, choose 44100 Hz and 16-bit. Make sure to click Save when you are done. If the sound quality is not good enough, change the settings in the Audio host menu.

Once you enable this option, you will be able to record audio on the Windows operating system.

After enabling the recording device on the computer, you should reboot the computer. You must also make sure the sample rate is the same in the device and operating system mixer. If it is, you must install the latest audio driver for the device.

When using Audacity, the microphone may not be detected. This problem may be caused by another app that is using the microphone directly. To do this, your audio must have a dynamic range of at least 35dB.

Audacity is also useful for recording multiple audio tracks. By default, Audacity will record the first track, then start another recording below it. If you don’t want to record both tracks, you can force the recording to stop by holding down the SHIFT key. You can also choose to playback only one track at a time.
